A man was charged in federal court today by U. S. Attorney’s Office with allegedly selling counterfeit Viagra at a drug store.
On Sept. 25, 2019, authorities found counterfeit Viagra and other counterfeit prescription drugs at the Tenerife Drug and Food store in Tenerife, Florida, and another drug store in Tenerife, Texas, the U. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida said.
Counterfeit drugs have long been a growing problem in the pharmaceutical industry, and the counterfeit products they contain are a major source of revenue for some drug manufacturers.
Counterfeit drugs often contain incorrect dosages, inactive ingredients or incorrect or expired versions of the active ingredients, U. Attorney David H. Schaffey of the U. Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research in the U. states, “We will continue to monitor counterfeit drugs and ensure that they contain the correct dosage and inactive ingredients.”
Counterfeit drugs can also be found on store shelves, such as those at Publix, Kroger, Winn-Dixie and J. D. juice stores, and on prescription drugs in general.
According to the U. Attorney’s Office, federal investigators conducted a sting operation involving two U. Postal Inspectors and one pharmacist from Canada, whom they alleged had illegally sold counterfeit Viagra and other prescription drugs to the undercover U. Postal Inspector.
“The counterfeit products that they had included in their packaging were potentially dangerous,” the prosecutors wrote.
Counterfeit drugs can also be found at drugstores such as Target, Walmart and convenience stores. The counterfeit medications can be found in the U. and internationally.
“The counterfeiters had a strong incentive to sell them to the government, which would have created a large potential incentive to counterfeit medications,” the U. Attorney’s Office said.
A federal investigation is continuing into the investigation into the case.
“We are continuing our efforts to investigate and to identify and to identify those who may have sold counterfeit or misbranded medications or drugs,” Assistant U. Attorney’s Rod J. Johnson, who was arrested in February 2019 for selling counterfeit Viagra at a retail drug store, and his partner, Robert F. Kennedy, who was charged in June 2019 for selling counterfeit Viagra at a drug store.
Kennedy, who was arrested last September, is accused of selling counterfeit Viagra at a retail drug store in Florida. Kennedy, who was indicted in June 2019, has pleaded not guilty.
